S. Abdur Rahman University was founded in 1984 as Crescent Engineering College, a Muslim minority institution approved by theAll India Council of Technical Educationand affiliated to Madras University. The college was affiliated to Madras University until the year 2001.From 2002, many engineering colleges in the city of Chennai changed affiliations to Anna University. University of Madras became an umbrella university, exclusively for non-professional, Art & Sciences colleges that offer BSc & BCom degrees. Many colleges chose not to affiliate with any university and became deemed universities in their own right. Crescent Engineering College was affiliated to Anna University until 2008. It was elevated as a university (B. S. Abdur Rahman University) by Section 3 of the UGC act 1956 in December 2008
In terms of its infrastructure, CSA perceives all its spaces – indoor and outdoor – to be living labs, open to creative expression and interpretation by the students. Specifically, the studios, AV room, CSA’s library in addition to the University library, model-making workshop, materials lab, digital technology lab, exhibition/open-crit hall, and photography & presentation lab allow the School to not only deliver quality instruction to students but also to inculcate early on in them a sense of pride in their purpose, professionalism and responsibility.
The Library was started in the year 1984 as Crescent Engineering College, after serving 25 years, it became University Library in the year 2009. The Central Library of B.S.Abdur Rahman University has huge collections in the field of Science, Engineering and Technology, Management and Humanities. The Library functions 12 hours in a day and Saturdays and Sundays also the library is working. The library is member of DELNET (Developing Library Network), MALIBNET (Madras Library Network), British Council Division, Anna University – Chennai, American Information Resource Centre and Structural Engineering Resource Centre. The Library is also a member of National Digital Library (https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/) , under the mission of National Knowledge Network. The Library enrolled its membership in Shodhganga (http://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/) to upload PhD thesis.
The University has excellent hostel facilities and infrastructure within the campus that make students feel comfortable and at home. There are men’s hostels which can accommodate upto 1500 students. It has a secure women’s hostel which can accommodate upto 350 students. Four wellconstructed, state of the art buildings, complete with lifts, form the new hostel block. The men and women hostels have their own mess, where the students are offered a choice of both vegetarian and non vegetarian food. This is an extended home, conducive for students to do serious study and to grow spiritually, intellectually, physically and psychologically. A mosque stands testimony to the fact that peace of mind is enshrined in the remembrance of God. The hostels are also equipped with separate gymnasia for men and women students. Hostels maintaining international standards of cuisine and comfort, with a caring and sharing environment, have been proposed, with separate buildings for men and women students. B.S Abdur Rahman University has an exclusive placement and training cell headed by Mr. Mohamed Tajudeen. Every year, the process is streamlined as per convenience of students and recruiters. The placement process begins with Pre- Placement talks by companies, usually scheduled in the month of August and the placement process commences from the month of September. Participation by a large number of reputed organizations year-after-year for recruitment bears testimony to the reputation companies have for the institution.
The primary function of the placement office is three fold, the first and foremost is creating awareness about the placement process through a series of awareness programmes. The next task is to train them to face the forthcoming placement seasons through a set of placement training through experts in the sector. The last but the most important function is to streamline the as per convenience of students and recruiters. The placement process begins with Pre- Placement talks by companies, usually scheduled in the month of August and the placement process commences from the month of September. An elaborate slotting criteria is used to slot the companies for the placement process

About the Exam:
Admissions for B.Arch., degree programme is open to all Indians and foreign nationals, fulfilling the minimum requirements for admission as per the norms of Council of Architecture, New Delhi and Anna University, Chennai. No need to write entrance exam, admission based on the anna university counseling.
Admission to B.Arch., degree programme is as per the norms of Council of Architecture, New Delhi and Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
A pass in Higher Secondary or a 3 year Govt. Recognized Diploma with 50% aggregate and Maths as a compulsory subject.
Pass in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) with minimum of 40%
Admission thro Government Quota:
Admissions for the B.Arch., degree programme in the open quota, is in accordance with the single- window counselling procedures of the Anna University, Chennai.
Admission thro Management Quota:
Admissions for the under graduate B.Arch., degree programme through management is based on a personal interview besides the required eligibility laid down by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi and Anna University, Chennai.

The NATA exam is for 3 hours and has 2 sections:
Section 1: Drawing test (2 hours) – 100 marks
Section 2: Aesthetic sensitivity test (1 hour) – 100 marks
Aesthetic Sensitivity is to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination and observation; creativity and communication; and Architectural awareness. The test shall be of objective type and comprise of topics related to,
(i) Visualizing three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings.
(ii) Visualizing different sides of three dimensional object.
(iii) Analytical Reasoning.
(iv) Mental Ability
(v) Imaginative comprehension and expression
(vi) Architectural awareness
The Drawing aptitude of the candidate shall be judged on the following aspects:
(i) Ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner.
(ii) Visualizing and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on the surroundings.
(iii) Sense of perspective drawing.
(iv) Creating interesting two dimensional composition using given shapes or forms.
(v) Creating visual harmony using colours in given composition.
(vi) Understanding of scale and sense of proportion
(vii) Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on theme from day to day experiences.
CSA 2017 Result
The Crescent school of Architecture will announce the result of the B.Arch entrance examination on the official website. The candidates will be able to check it by clicking on the link here and entering the Registration Number and Date of Birth in the CSA 2017 result portal.
The result will state the score and the merit of the candidate. The score will be determined as per the marking scheme of the examination, whereas, the merit will be calculated on the basis of the secured marks.
CSA 2017 Counselling
The counselling of CSA 2017 will be held for the merit holders. In it, the seats will be allocated to them. For the counselling, the call letters will be published on the official website after the announcement of the result. In the letter, candidates will be informed about the counselling date, venue and other details. The seat allocation will be done in multiple rounds the counselling.
