Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology (ACCET-Karaikudi) is an autonomous (with effect from 2009) college of engineering inKaraikudi, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1952, it is under the control of the government of the State. The college is a member institute under the TEQIP – Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme in India (11 colleges were selected from Tamil Nadu).Total Land Area owned by the college – 144.39 acers. The college auditorium (Dewan Bahadur Murugappa Hall) is the college auditorium seating a capacity of 600. It also has a spacious stage for conducting cultural programmes and entertainment. NRSC BuildingThe Non Resident Students Centre Building was declared open on the 27th March 1981 for the benefit of day scholars. It houses a couple of spacious dining halls with furniture. A room for the students association and a few guest rooms are also available in the NRSC Building. Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology and Alagappa Polytechnic Students Co-operative Society Limited was registered on 19-01-1956. Every student on admission to the college automatically becomes the member of co-operative store. The store primarily caters to the requirements of the students. The college is equipped with its own dispensary intended for the benefit of the students and faculty of the college, mainly the hostel residents. It is situated at close quarters to both the Boys and the Girls hostels and functions every day in the evening. At all times, the dispensary ensures that appropriate treatment is given to the sick as and when needed. The dispensary is facilitated with a doctor on duty and a nurse twenty four hours a day. The doctoring is always done in an environment of total reliability and privacy and zero payment is demanded from the patient in return. A pharmacy that hands out medicaments and antidotes to the afflicted student or staff at no cost is also anchored at the college infirmary. This dispensary is at service to the needy on all days of the week except for Sundays.


The college library has an adequate collection of 42,000 regular books, 14,000 for SC/ST Book Bank, 1344 books purchased under TEQIP and 741 for General Book Bank housed in a seperate library building with all amenities. About 100 Journals and Magazines and purchased regularly. E-Library has been set up separately. CDs are available for student’s reference. Library is connected with campuswide networking programme. All Government holidays are holidays for the Library. Library has been fully automized. Computerised library service (issue and return of books) has been introduced from the academic year 2008-09. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) has been made available for staff and students use. The entire library databases are made available in all the departments. The students and staff members can search any book, by title, by author, by publisher wise etc. even from their departments by using OPAC through the following URL http:\\\Opac\index.asp. They can also verify their account (about the books taken by them) through OPAC. The students may use their Roll No. as user ID and password. 852 CDs are made available in the digital library section for students and staff reference.

CanteenThe college has a fully functioning cafeteria with food and beverages served at a reasonable rate to students as well as staff. The canteen is located in proximity to the Department of Civil Engineering and operates on all working days. Breakfast is served any time between 07.00 am and 10.00 am every day and Lunch is served from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm. Tea, coffee and other liquid refreshments as well as flavourful South Indian comestibles and snacks are provided round the clock every day. The college is based on the township Karaikudi which is greatly famous for its authentic Chettinad cuisine. The college canteen as well as the hostel messes unfailingly capture the flavours of the South and deliver it to the pupils and the faculty with no compromise in hygiene as well. Two separate messes, one for boys and the other for girls, have been provided at their respective hostels.Monthly mess bill will be calculated for a period starting from 21st of every month to 20th of next month. Approximate mess bill will be Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1200 per month. Non vegetarian will be served at extra cost once in a week. Mess bill should be paid only through ICICI bank on or before 20th of every month.

Extra Facilities:

The college offers facilities for outdoor and indoor games such as cricket, hockey, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, tennis and table tennis and chess. There is a 400m track for athletics and the necessary equipment for jumps, throws, power lifting and body building. The membership of the tennis club is open to staff and students of the college. An indoor stadium and gymnasium are also available.  Arulmigu Kollangaali Amman Temple is situated just in front of the college entrance. The students of the college also enjoy an added advantage of having access to not one, but two ATMs, not very far from the college itself. There is a State Bank of India ATM only a few yards from the college main entrance and an Indian Bank ATM which lies less than a kilometer away from the college grounds. There is a branch of the Indian Bank very close to the ATM itself, where students can pay their Semester Fees. The monthly mess bills can be paid at the ICICI Bank which is at about 2 kilometers from the Institute. Also, the Boys hostel has an additional facility of paying the mess bill at the first year block to the people from ICICI Bank who come over to collect them occasionally. Post BoxThere is a post office in the college campus to provide the students with postal services in the vicinity. The post office can be found next to the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the college grounds. There is a Post Master who is stationed at the post office at all times. There are essentialities like inland post cards, courier covers, stamps, and so on available at the Post office for sale. The students, who might find it time consuming to travel to the main town to get postal entities, can purchase them at ease. The ACCET Post office also offers Courier services to its students. Every working day, from 5 pm to 6 pm, Speed Post services are made available in this registry. The post office can also handle personal mailing needs.

The Department of Placement and Training is an elemental section of the Institute and is supervised by a Placement Officer, who is in-charge of all the activities to be taken over in the Placement Cell. The Placement Officer is aided by four Placement Coordinators, one from the final year of each department, who are elected based on their proficiency and expertise. The students are trained in placement perspective right from their sixth semester and are constantly put through various kinds of tests which shape them up to face the placement interview process in total confidence and buoyancy. It is the sole duty of the Placement Officer to not only ensure that the students are trained to get acclimatized to an Industrial environment but also to cope with and be competent enough to face such an ambience.

  • Nurtures Industry Institute interaction, by organizing and coordinating frequent industrial visits, inplant training and projects of industrial relevance for the students, with the sole aim of zeroing down the hiatus between the industry and the academia.

About the Exam:

Anna University will conduct TNEA 2018 counselling for admission to UG engineering programmes at participating universities tentatively in last week of June. Admission to engineering programmes will be based on marks obtained by candidates in PCM in the qualifying examination. No separate entrance exam will be held. To account for variations in difficulty level of different state boards to that of the State Board of Tamil Nadu, the marks obtained by other state candidates will be normalized. Additionally, the total marks will be reduced to 200 (from 300) for preparing the merit list. Candidates who meet the cutoff of TNEA 2018 will be called for counselling round. Counselling of TNEA will be single window process.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2019

Candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria prescribed by Anna University to be considered for admission to any of the participating institutes of TNEA 2019. The list of criteria are mentioned below:


  • Candidates from Tamil Nadu (TN) who have passed VIII-XII in the state can apply and needn’t enclose certificate of nativity.
  • Candidates native to TN but who have passed VIII-XII in some other state must enclose nativity certificate.
  • Children of Central Govenmnt Employees can also apply provided their parents have been working in TN for past five years.
  • Candidates who have studied VIII-XII in the state of TN are eligible and don’t need to enclose Nativity Certificate.

Qualifying Exam

Candidates need to have passed HSC or any equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The category-wise minimum aggregate % of marks required in the three subjects is given below:

Age Limit:

Candidate who are applying to Marine Engineering mustn’t be older than 25 years on the last day of submission of online application deadline.

TNEA 2019 Eligibility Criteria for other state candidates:

Under the other-state quota, candidates who are Indian citizens but not a native of Tamil Nadu can apply.

Qualifying Exam and Marks: Candidates need to score a minimum of 50% aggerate marks in PCM taken together (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in HSc or equivalent exam.

TNEA Application Form 2019

The application form of TNEA 2019 will be available only in online mode. After filling in the online registration of TNEA application form 2018, the candidate will have to send printout of the completed online application in person or by post to:

The application form must be accompanied by photocopies of relevant certificates and photographs and must reach the above mentioned address on or before the last date. The registration fee must be paid only online. Candidates must pay the registration fee as per the category they belong to, or else their applications will be rejected.

When filling the application form of TNEA 2019, care must be taken to enter only genuine information. The TNEA application form 2019 will include fields like education details and personal details. Also, when uploading any documents, the candidate must conform to the prescribed format.

TNEA Reservation of Seats 2019

Allotment of undergraduate engineering seats through TNEA 2019 will be done under seven categories. These seven categories and the percentage of seats reserved per category are outlined in the table below:

TNEA Rank List 2019 and Random Number

The rank list of TNEA 2019 will be available tentatively in the third week of June for those candidates who have successfully completed the online registration process. For preparing the rank or merit list of TNEA 2019, the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in the qualifying examination would be considered. Also, rank list of TNEA 2018 would be prepared based on total marks of 200 (Mathematics – 100, Physics + Chemistry – 100). In case two or more candidates score the same marks in the common merit list, the inter-se-merit of the the candidates would be decided in a following order of priority:

  1. Percentage of marks obtained in Mathematics
  2. Percentage of marks in Physics
  3. Percentage of marks in the fourth optional subject
  4. Age of the candidate (the older candidate will be given prefernce)
  5. Random number assigned (higher number will be placed higher in merit list of TNEA 2019)

The common merit list would include the name and ranking of the shorlisted candidates. To check their random numbers, the candidate will have to log in using their registered email ID and password.

In case of Other State candidates, the 4th condition (age the candidate) will be the last condition for deciding inter-se merit. Also, the rank list will include the overall rank, region wise rank and community-wise rank of the candidate.

TNEA Cutoff 2019

The TNEA 2019 cutoff is the minimum rank a candidate needs to score to be in eligible for seat allotment. The cutoff of TNEA 2019 would be available for the specific college, community code (SC, ST, OC, etc.), and branch. The check the TNEA cutoff 2019, the candidate will have to go to the cutoff portal and select the relevant fields. The candidate, typically, would be required to enter three mandatory – district, college name, and branch, and one non-mandatory field – community code. Candidates who score the cutoff of TNEA 2019 will have to counselling round. When preparing the cutoff of TNEA 2019 factors like the number of candidates applying for admisison, previous years’ cutoff trends, and marks obtained by the candidates in qualifying exams will be taken into consideration.

TNEA Counselling 2019

The counselling of TNEA 2019 will be carried out according to merit and category-wise reservation of seats. Higher ranked candidates will be called for counselling of TNEA 2019 first and have more options to choose from. Candidates can pick their choices of branches and colleges from the available options at the time of counselling. Counselling will be held in offline mode and the candidate has to be present in person. If the candidate is unable to attend counselling for some unavoidable reasons, the parent of the candidate is allowed to attend counselling on behalf of the candidate.

Candidates who get shortlisted for counselling of TNEA 2019 have to pay the counselling fee either through Cash or DD. On the day of counselling, the candidate must also bring along originals of all relevant documents.

TNEA Seat Allotment 2019

The allotment of seats for TNEA 2019 will conducted in the order of merit. Also, when allotting seats category-wise rank of the candidate will be considered for filling seats reserved for candidates belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu. The choices entered by the candidate during counselling will also be taken into account. Once a candidate is allotted a seat, the candidate can go ahead and pay the remaining tuition fee.
