Pharmacy is a unique Health and Biomedical science discipline that focuses mainly on drugs. The discipline covers a broad range of teaching and research areas from pharmacokinetics, drug-receptor theory, identification and validation of drug targets, agonist and antagonist drug discovery, molecular and cellular mechanisms of drug actions, disease-specific systems of pharmacy, drug modality development, pharmacogenetics and personalized medicine, drug development and clinical drug trial, to adverse drug reactions and toxicology
The department has found in 2015 with B.Pharm degree course with approval of Pharmacy Council of India ( PCI) New Delhi with Ref.No. 32 -1199/2015 – PCI/233/0-12 dt.02/09/2015 for intake of 60 admission and has since been deeply rooted in classical pharmacy teaching and research. Currently, we have a strong team of academic and research staff committed to excel in the pharmacy education and research missions. Our team has diverse research training background from clinical pharmacy, systems pharmacy, to basic molecular and cellular pharmacy. Many of our team members have medical training or pharmacy training to support clinically-relevant education mission to our professional programs including MBBS, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing. Besides, the department is also well-positioned to train students from the Life Science program in basic and molecular pharmacy and toxicology, and equip them to become pharmaceutical drug industry and clinical drug trial professionals
Karpagam Academy of Higher Education genesis goes back to September 1995 when it was initiated as Karpagam Arts & Science College. The college was promoted by the Karpagam Charity Trust.

Bachelor of Pharmacy shortly called as B. Pharm is a UG course in the field of pharmacy. Bachelor of Pharmacy is the fundamental pre-requisite for registration for practicing as a pharmacist in many nation. This is particularly true in India as well and the pharmacy courses in India are regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India, under which most of the Indian states have their own pharmacy councils. When it comes to Pharmacy Council in the state of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council was constituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu according to the provisions of the Pharmacy Act 1948.
About Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council:
Pharmacy education in the state of Tamil Nadu is governed by the Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council, which is working under the guidance of Pharmacy Council of India. The council has six members, out of which five members are nominated by the Tamil Nadu Government and one member is elected by the Tamil Nadu Medical Council. The council also has three ex-officio members.
Eligibility for admission to B. Pharm course in Tamil Nadu:
For seeking admission to the Bachelor of Pharmacy course in the state of Tamil Nadu, candidates must have completed their higher secondary in science stream either from an institution approved by the Higher Education Board of Tamil Nadu or the Central Board of Secondary Education or from an institution approved by any other board of higher education in the nation. Admission is offered to the students based on the merit secured by candidates in the qualifying examination.
