K.M.Mission Medical & Educational Trust, Madurai started the K.M.College of Pharmacy in the year, 1981 with foresight to provide pharmacy education in the backward districts and develop an institution of excellence in Pharmacy. The Diploma in Pharmacy course was started in 1981 with the permission of the Govt. of Tamilnadu and Pharmacy Council of India.
Within 4 years the management was able to start B.Pharmacy Course. The institution is located within a short distance from the main road and the same time, faraway from the dust and din of the urban city making it conductive for academic pursuits.In 1985, the B.Pharm, degree course was affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. Subsequently, it came under The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. In the year 1990 M.Pharm Degree course was started with the branches of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy. The College has been permitted to admit six students in each branch. Subsequently in 1997, two more branches namely, Pharmacology and Pharmacy Practice were added with an increased intake of students for each branch.The institution has full fledged facilities in the various subjects like Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy Physiology and Health Education, Computer Application & Biostatistics and Pharmacy Practice. Conforming to the requirements of The Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, Pharmacy Council of India and AICTE. From 2002 our College has been upgraded as a research institution to offer PhD Program under The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.

Bachelor of Pharmacy shortly called as B. Pharm is a UG course in the field of pharmacy. Bachelor of Pharmacy is the fundamental pre-requisite for registration for practicing as a pharmacist in many nation. This is particularly true in India as well and the pharmacy courses in India are regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India, under which most of the Indian states have their own pharmacy councils. When it comes to Pharmacy Council in the state of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council was constituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu according to the provisions of the Pharmacy Act 1948.
About Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council:
Pharmacy education in the state of Tamil Nadu is governed by the Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council, which is working under the guidance of Pharmacy Council of India. The council has six members, out of which five members are nominated by the Tamil Nadu Government and one member is elected by the Tamil Nadu Medical Council. The council also has three ex-officio members.
Eligibility for admission to B. Pharm course in Tamil Nadu:
For seeking admission to the Bachelor of Pharmacy course in the state of Tamil Nadu, candidates must have completed their higher secondary in science stream either from an institution approved by the Higher Education Board of Tamil Nadu or the Central Board of Secondary Education or from an institution approved by any other board of higher education in the nation. Admission is offered to the students based on the merit secured by candidates in the qualifying examination.
